The first half of this session will cover basic principles to follow when building an enterprise class LAN in your school, whether building from scratch, or bringing an older network up to modern standards. Throughout the session the OSI model will be referenced to show the relationship between different aspects of the network, including cabling standards, wireless fundamentals, switching, and routing. Basics of equipment selection, installation, and configuration will be addressed. The second half will address basics of network troubleshooting. Again, we will follow the OSI model to present a series of steps that can be used in determining the cause of common network problems. We will also address several commonly user-reported symptoms, along with prioritized things to check to speed troubleshooting.
